What is a pride of lions?
It is a social species, forming groups called prides. A lion pride consists of a few adult males, related females and cubs. Groups of female lions usually hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates.
What happens to male lions when the pride is taken over?
The female lions, which are usually all related to some degree, typically stay behind. When male lions take over a new territory, they almost always kill the prides’ cubs, since they are not biologically related and do not want to spend energy ensuring that other lions’ genes will be passed on.
